The Campus Ministry Center and Miami Hillel are offering an interfaith Alternative Spring Break trip to Tucson, Arizona for Miami students to study border and immigration issues. For one week in March, the students will learn about immigration and border issues from those directly involved with humanitarian aid, activism, and immigrant communities. They will experience border culture and the Sonoran desert while serving those who are suffering or in need. Looking at border issues from a spiritual, religious, or ethical perspective rather than through the lens of politics or economics they hope to put what they learn into action locally.
Andrew Gantt, Hopedale friend and CMC volunteer, spoke to the congregation on Sunday, Jan 13, inspiring those assembled to match the Social Justice Committee’s contribution raising $353 to cover the trip cost of one student. We look forward to a Sunday service visit from the group when they return so we can hear of their experiences and learn ourselves.
